Sheridan was born on February 9, 2002. Her birthmother clearly cared deeply about her safety as she left Sheridan, on February 11, at the gates of the orphanage in Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi Province, in the southwest of China. To learn more about China, visit the Resources page. Sheridan weighed 6 lbs. 11 ounces and was 19.7 inches long.
Sheridan in China
Sheridan has been well cared for in the Nanning Children's Welfare Institute since the day she was found there. The orphanage named her Jiang Hong, which means "ginger rainbow." The Chinese characters in the upper right-hand corner of this page spell "Jiang Hong" in Chinese. To learn more about Chinese culture and language and about adoption from China, visit Resources. We learned on October 3, 2002 that we had been matched with Sheridan and would soon travel to get her. Elaina can hardly wait to meet her new sister.
